516. Mini-Golf Adventure: a story and meditation for your bedtime routine

516. Mini-Golf Adventure: a story and meditation for your bedtime routine

Rogelio and his dad have a fun day playing miniature golf with Helen and Brianna.

Narrator: Male

Story Begins: 4:45

Mini-Golf Adventure Excerpt:

Rogelio munched his breakfast with excitement. Today was going to be a fun day. Rogelio’s Dad was going to take him and his best friends, Brianna and Helen, to play a game called miniature golf.

The goal of the game was to hit a brightly colored golf ball into a hole by tapping it as few times as possible with a golf club called a “putter.”  Each hole had a different theme. Whoever took the fewest strokes to get the golf ball into all the holes was the winner.

“Dad, what color ball do you think I’ll get?” Rogelio asked.

“I don’t know, Ro.” Dad replied, using Rogelio’s nickname, “Ro.”

Rogelio loved it when his Dad called him by his nickname. It made him feel special.

“I think mine will be orange.” Rogelio guessed.

510. Searching for Treasure: a meditation and relaxing story for children

Mia and Max have a treasure hunt – and Max is helping Mia practice her reading!

Narrator: Female

Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 8:05

Searching for Treasure Excerpt:

Mia knocked on her brother’s bedroom door.  Max opened the door a crack, peeked out and when he saw it was Mia, exclaimed, “Not yet, Mia, not yet!”

“How much longer?” Mia asked.  She felt like she had been waiting FOREVER, when in fact, she had only been waiting about 15 minutes.

“Soon, probably another 15 minutes.” Max replied, shutting his bedroom door quickly.

Mia sighed and headed towards her bedroom.  She picked up her T-Rex and Stegosaurus and pretended to have them play tag on her bookshelf.  Soon she had the dinosaurs leaping off a pretend waterfall, swimming to a pretend shore, and hopping on her fire engine to go save the town from a big fire.  She was so busy playing make believe that she didn’t realize how fast the time had passed.  Before she knew it, Max appeared in her doorway.

“Ok, Mia, it’s ready!”  he exclaimed with excitement.

“It is?” Mia replied, dropping her dinosaurs.

“Yes!” Said Max. “You can begin.”

“How do I get started?  Mia asked.

“Here, look at this.”  Max said as he handed Mia a piece of colored paper folded in half with a big number 1 on the outside.  “This is your first clue in the treasure hunt!” Max explained. “That’s why it’s numbered one.  Unfold the paper and read the clue, and that will tell you where to find the next clue!”

“Ok!” Mia exclaimed.  She was very excited to do a treasure hunt but also nervous about having to read the clues.  She was just learning how to read and wasn’t sure how to sound out all the words yet.

Max was excited for his little sister and hopeful he had created the treasure hunt the right way.  This was his first time creating a treasure hunt.  Their mom had created ones for him, when he was Mia’s age, to help him learn to read, and now it was his turn to help Mia in the same way.

187. Costume Parade: a relaxing story and meditation for kids

Owen and Allie have been invited to a costume party but they’re afraid of masks. Will they join in to the costume parade?

Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Costume Parade” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!

Narrator: Male

Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 7:37

Costume Parade Excerpt:

Allie had been invited to a party at her friend Andy’s house.  She was excited because she loved parties! She also felt nervous.  It was a costume party, and Allie worried that some people would be wearing masks.  She felt afraid when people wore masks.  Uneasy questions filled her mind when she saw a person in a mask.  Who was it? What did they want? Were they kind or mean? Allie usually ran away when a person wearing a mask came near.

All of these thoughts filled her head as she thought about the party. She was so worried about it, that even though she was going to play with her friends Lydia, Andy, Owen, and Raj today, Allie didn’t really feel like going.  What if they wanted to talk about the party?  Allie took a deep dragon breath in and out and felt a bit better.  After all, she did want to see her friends. So, off she went to Raj’s house.

When Allie arrived, Andy, Owen, and Lydia were already there.  As the friends discussed what to play, Lydia told Andy she felt excited about the party, and then Raj agreed with her.  Allie felt worried all over again, her stomach churned. Then Andy asked Owen, “What do you think about the party Owen?”  Owen looked down at his feet feeling embarrassed and said, “I’m not sure if I can go.”

“Why not?” Andy, Raj, and Lydia asked.

Allie jumped in and said, “Hey, it’s ok if he can’t go.  I’m not sure I can either.” She didn’t know Owen’s reason, but felt like she should help him out.

Now, Andy looked hurt.  “Oh.” He said.  “I just hoped that you all would be there.”

Owen sighed, and said, “It’s just… I’m afraid of masks.”

Allie’s mouth dropped, she didn’t think anyone else had that fear.  It felt good knowing she wasn’t alone.  Quickly she admitted “Me too!”  So that Owen could feel better too.

182. A Train Ride: a bedtime story and guided meditation for kids

Billy and Emily are excited to ride the sparkling train. What will they see?

Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “A Train Ride” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!

Narrator: Female

Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 7:52

A Train Ride Excerpt:

The doors slid open with a whoosh.  Emily and Billy stepped aboard the sparkling train. Their heads turned as they took note of every little detail.  Emily had already pointed out the dark blue solar paint on the train twinkling like the stars in the night sky.  Billy smiled at his little sister and asked.  “Where should we sit?”

“How about right here!” She said, enthusiastically pointing to a seat about halfway through the train. Then she bowed and motioned for her brother to sit by the window.

“Thanks Emily, but you’re shorter than me.  So, if you sit by the window, both of us will be able to see.” Billy said.

“OK!” Emily said and slid into her spot. Their parents smiled knowingly at each other and sat down in the seat behind them.  Then the train slowly began to roll forward.  “We’re moving!” Emily exclaimed.

“Look! We’re going up to the elevated tracks!” Billy said.

“I’m so excited! I better take some deep dragon breaths!”  Emily said.

“Me too!”  Billy said, and with that they both took a deep breath in and out. “How are you?” Billy asked his little sister.  She squealed with excitement “I need another dragon breath!”

“OK, me too!”  Billy said through a gigantic smile, and they both took a deep breath in and out.

There was a giggle from their parents as Emily asked her brother “Are you ready now?”

“Let’s take one more deep dragon breath.”  He suggested, and they did.

“That’s better.” Emily said still smiling widely. “Oh! Look outside!  The forest is beautiful!” It was.  The needles on the fir trees fluttered as the train passed.  Emily could see sunshine streaming through the branches of the trees decorating the ground like a lace tablecloth.

496. Neighborhood Friends: a story and relaxation for kids

Callie feels a little shy when Anora, her new neighbor, invites her out to play, but she ends up having a wonderful time with new friends.

Narrator: Female

Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 8:52

Neighborhood Friends Excerpt:

It was a bright winter afternoon on Ahway Island. Callie had spent the morning playing with her toys in her new bedroom. Callie’s family had just moved to their new house on Ahway Island, and most of the moving boxes were unpacked, including the boxes of Callie’s toys.

This was the first time Callie had a chance to play with her toys in her new bedroom, so she enjoyed letting her toys explore their new environment. She showed them the closet in her room, and the window that looked out to the backyard, and the shelf where they could sleep at night. She wanted to make sure they would all be comfortable in their new home.

Eventually, Callie’s parents called her out to the kitchen to eat lunch. Callie carefully put her toys away on the shelf and headed to the kitchen.

“Hi Callie,” said Jun, Callie’s dad. “Did you have fun playing in your new room?”

“Yes, daddy,” replied Callie. “I showed my toys my new room. I think they like it.”

494. A Creative Mess: a calming nap time story for children

494. A Creative Mess: a calming nap time story for children

Helen and her friends Brianna and Rogelio are painting together, but painting can get messy.

Narrator: Male

Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 7:19

A Creative Mess Excerpt:

It was a peaceful weekend on Ahway Island. In the basement of one of the little houses in the neighborhood, Helen and her friends, Brianna and Rogelio, had decided to spend the afternoon painting together.

Helen stopped painting for a moment to admire her art. She was painting a picture of her house, her family, and her dog.  A big, bright orange sun lit up the upper right corner of the painting. Green grass dotted with flowers filled the yard in the front of the house. To the side of the house, Helen had painted her family and her dog. Painting people and animals was more difficult than houses and flowers, Helen thought. But still, she was pleased with how everything was looking.

She especially liked that her house in the painting had a bright red door. In real life, her house’s door was brown. Helen always wanted to have a bright red front door, but her parents didn’t think that was necessary. But that’s one reason why Helen liked painting so much — she could make things whatever color she wanted! If she wanted a blue sun and a purple moon, then she would paint a blue sun and a purple moon!

Today’s Meditation: Relax in the grass as you imagine sunlight warming you from head to toe.
