Guessing Game Excerpt:

Ian settled down at his desk and noticed that his schedule was missing.  He began to feel nervous.  Ian liked to know what was going to happen so he could feel ready for his day.  Today he had no idea.  His friend Mike looked over and noticed that Ian seemed upset.

“What’s wrong Ian?” Mike asked.

“I don’t have my schedule.”  Ian replied.

“Oh, did you ask Mr. Smith?” Mike suggested.

“No.  If it’s not on my desk then Mr. Smith doesn’t have it.  He always puts my schedule out.” Ian said, starting to feel a little panicky.  “I need to take a deep dragon breath (deep breath).  Ian felt a little better, though he still worried about what was happening today.

Mike asked, “Do you want to know what I do when I’m unsure about what is going on?”

Ian looked at Mike and said, “I thought you always knew what was happening.”

“Oh no.” Mike said with a smile.  “I guess.  I look and listen to find clues, then I guess.  Sometimes I’m right, sometimes, I’m wrong.  Do you want to try?”

“Ok,” Ian said hesitantly.  “ How do you find the clues?”

“I look and listen for changes.  Like Mr. Smith standing up at the board, he was at his desk.  Since he has changed spots, he may be giving us a clue.”  Ian eagerly waited for the clue his teacher was about to give. Mr. Smith got out his magnets.  Ian made his first guess.

“I’m guessing that Mr. Smith is about to give us directions.”  He said to Mike.

174. Pal Rides Again: a guided relaxation and calming story

Pal the golden retriever is ready for another adventure. He decides to go for a bus ride, but today there is a different driver. Will Pal get to ride?

Pal Rides Again Excerpt:

It started out as an ordinary day. Pal, the little puppy darted in between and around the boy and girl’s feet as they rushed around the kitchen. With a “See you later,” the boy and girl left for school. Now Pal just had to make it through the boring morning. The little puppy settled into his bed with a chewy toy and worked on that for a while. He hopped up and had a snack around lunchtime and then the little puppy heard a rumble outside. With paws on the window ledge, Pal peered outside. It was the city bus! Pal barked a happy woof as the bus rolled by. His tail wagged, back and forth, back and forth. Pal’s bus was next!

The little puppy climbed out through the dog door and ran over to wait at the bus stop. He had been riding the bus every day since the first day of school. As people arrived to wait for the next bus they patted Pal on the head, and said, “Good afternoon Pal! How are you today?” The energetic little puppy’s tail wagged non-stop. Then Pal froze in place and listened. He heard a rumble in the distance. The bus was on its way! He zipped around all the people, and they said, “Pal’s telling us it’s time to line up.” Everyone lined up, ready for the bus. Pal took his place at the back of the line.

The bus stopped, and the people climbed the steps. As Pal placed his paw on the first step, the driver said, “Shoo, shoo.” frowning at the little puppy. Pal felt a little confused, after all he always rode the bus. The little puppy sniffed the air to see what was different. He smelled a different smell, and heard the people say, “It’s ok. He always rides the bus. Pal gets off at the school. You’ll see.” Pal looked at the driver and realized that the driver was different today. The substitute driver shrugged his shoulders and said, “Ok, but if he’s still on the bus after the school, one of you is taking him with. I can’t have a dog on my bus all day.” And with that Pal took his spot in the first seat. The little puppy settled in and looked out the window, his tail wagging and wagging.

171. Changing Patterns: a meditation and story for your bedtime routine

171. Changing Patterns: a meditation and story for your bedtime routine

Brandon the block likes to follow a pattern in his art but today the kids are creating something new. Will he like it?

Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Changing Patterns” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!

Narrator: Male

Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 7:20

Changing Patterns Excerpt:

The pattern blocks sat in their usual spots, all neatly placed according to size and shape in their container. Brandon the purple triangle block smiled. He felt contented. Everything was just as he liked it: neat, orderly, and all the blocks ready to follow the directions on whatever pattern the kids picked. As he wondered what their next pattern would be, the lid to the container opened and light spilled inside. It was time to play! Brandon watched carefully to see what pattern the kids would pick, but they left the direction cards in their spot.

Brandon felt confused. What could the kids be doing? All the blocks were already organized nicely. The purple triangle block watched as the kids took out large, red rectangle blocks and stood them on their side, in many different patterns. None of the patterns were like anything Brandon had seen before. Now the purple triangle block felt a bit worried. This was something new. He was unsure what would happen next. So he watched. The big orange squares were next, and the kids set them on top of the red blocks in some places and not in others. All the blocks were talking, wondering what was happening. Brandon started to feel upset. Then he remembered his deep dragon breaths. He took a deep breath in and out and watched carefully. The kids were smiling and the red and orange blocks seemed more curious than upset. He took another deep breath in and out feeling better. “Ok,” he thought. “Let’s see what’s going to happen. Everyone seems to be happy and safe. Maybe the kids have something really fun planned.” He still wasn’t sure how they could make anything without a pattern.

The brand new tunnel is ready! How will the train like it?

The New Tunnel Excerpt:

It was time for the sunset roll, and the sparkling train pulled out of the station and headed towards the forest. The train thought about the tunnel under the forest. Eager for it to be finished, the train had many questions. “How big is the tunnel? Will it change my route? How dark is the tunnel?” Every time the train passed by the construction crew, the train thought of its questions. “How big is the tunnel? Will it change my route? How dark is the tunnel?” After what felt like a million days, the sparkling train passed by the tunnel site and could tell it was finished! The train drove by slowly to see all the little details. It could see that the tunnel was long, and the entrance was wide enough to be comfortable. Along the top of the tunnel the sparkling train could see some clear panels that allowed sunlight through. Phew, the train was happy to see that. It had felt a little worried that the tunnel would be too dark. Mounds of earth surrounded the tunnel, and the train could see ivy beginning to sprout. Little purple flowers decorated the entrance to the tunnel. As the train rolled away from the site, it smiled. The tunnel looked fantastic from the outside. Then the train thought of the questions, “How big is the tunnel? Will it change my route? How dark is the tunnel?” and realized that two had already been answered. Now the train wondered if its route would be changing. Then one more question popped into the train’s mind. “When will I be able to drive through the tunnel?” Maybe the train would get to drive through it on the next run.

Today’s Meditation: Relax in the grass as you imagine sunlight warming you from head to toe.

167. Making Music: a meditation and relaxing story for children

Rogelio, Brianna and Helen are working on their play. Today they are exploring music.

Making Music Excerpt:

It had been a while since Rogelio, Brianna, and Helen had met in the park and decided to write a play. Rogelio thought about it and smiled. All three of them had such different ideas. It was amazing that they had figured out what to do. But because of those differences, he had a feeling that their play would be a huge hit. Rogelio was looking forward to their meeting at the park today. He looked up and noticed Helen walking towards him and waved excitedly. Helen smiled broadly and waved back. Then Rogelio saw Brianna headed their way and waved at her too. She was also smiling and waving. Rogelio felt excited and eager to see what they came up with today.

Once Brianna made her way to their meeting place under the big oak tree, Helen said, “Ok, last time we decided that our play would be about a dragon living in the forest with the animals. The dragon has a special jewel to communicate with everything, even cars and plants. We also wanted to add music and write a script, with some parts where the audience can choose. What new ideas did you guys have?”

Rogelio said. “I’ve been thinking about the music for our play. I brought some instruments!” Rogelio had his backpack with him. He pulled out a little keyboard, a little hand drum, and an instrument case.

“What’s in the case?” Brianna asked.

“I’ll show you.” Rogelio replied. He opened it up and inside there was a ukulele.
