420. Autumn Clean-Up: a relaxation and story for your nap time routine

420. Autumn Clean-Up: a relaxation and story for your nap time routine

Joe helps out with his favorite chore: cleaning up leaves with the leaf blower!

Narrator: Male

Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 7:52

Autumn Clean-Up Excerpt:

Sunlight spilled into the room, waking up Joe. He sighed and stretched. It was a Saturday morning in early autumn – Joe’s favorite time of the year! Those crisp, cool days, when the leaves fell down from the trees like multi-colored rain. Those chilly evenings when Joe could curl up with a book in front of a cozy fire.

Joe and his sister Theresa both had to help with chores around the house, and in the fall, Joe’s job was to help clean up the yard, especially by clearing up all the leaves on the lawn. But Joe didn’t mind. Actually, raking and blowing leaves was his favorite chore. He loved making big piles of leaves on the lawn and he always had fun using the big leaf blower.

142. The Huggy Chair: a mindful story for kids

Bailey the Bean Bag Chair gets ready to help the kids deal with their feelings. Sometimes everyone needs a Huggy Chair.

Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “The Huggy Chair” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!

Narrator: Male

The Huggy Chair Excerpt:

Bailey didn’t have to wait long. An angry kid stomped into the room and flopped down into the chair, arms crossed and brow furrowed. The big beanbag chair loved a tough case! He circled the boy, and gave him a tight hug.

Anyone who settled into the beanbag chair needed to take three deep dragon breaths. That was the rule.

So the boy took a deep dragon breath in and out and his forehead softened.

The boy took another deep dragon breath in and out and his arms uncrossed.

With one more deep dragon breath in and out the boy’s body relaxed into the bean bag chair and he sighed. His anger seemed to have melted away. Slowly the boy climbed out of the squishy chair. Bailey tried his best to fluff himself back up. He wanted to be ready for the next kid that needed him. However, now there was a pit right in the center of the bean bag chair.

“Oh well,” Bailey thought, “at least they’ll know where to sit now.”

139. Little Loons: a mindful children’s story

Leland the loon teaches his little loons how to take care of themselves and notice what others are feeling.

Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Little Loons” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!

Narrator: Male

Little Loons Excerpt:

The waters on the lake sat peaceful and still. A gentle mist danced across the smooth surface, circling rocks and reeds. Through the peaceful calm a gentle song surfaced. Leland Loon called to his baby chicks. It was time for them to come back to the nest and eat. The little loons stopped exploring the smooth surface of the lake and listened. They heard their papa’s call and began to follow the sound of his song. The little loons felt hungry and were ready for dinner. The loons hooted back to their papa. Listening carefully, Leland hooted again, so that the little ones would know where to go. Slowly the five little loons floated into view. As they came closer together, one little loon bumped into her brothers.

“Sorry,” she said, lowering her head. “I’m just so hungry.”

Her brother sighed. “You always run into us.”

“I know,” she said. “There’s just always something exciting to see or listen to. I get distracted.”

Leland smiled. He knew how she felt. There were a lot of wondrous things to see and hear in the world.

“Luna, when you finish your dinner, come see me.”

“OK,” Luna said.

The 5 little loons ate their dinner, and with a full belly little Luna coasted over to Leland.

“Luna, you are right. There is a lot to see and hear. I understand your curiosity. It’s great. I would like to show you how to pay attention to what is happening right around you at the same time. Do you know why?”

410. Work and Play: a mindful story for kids

Anora and Blanka Bunny learn that working and playing are both important!

Narrator: Male

Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 7:48

Work and Play Excerpt:

Blanka Bunny, the stuffed plush toy bunny, woke up with a start. She had been sleeping in Anora’s bed, just like she had almost every night since she joined Anora’s family. She had been having a lovely dream about playing with Anora, when suddenly she was awakened by Anora’s voice shouting, “Yes, Daddy, okay! I’m doing it!”

Blanka found herself being lifted off the bed and hurriedly carried around the room.

“Sorry, Blanka! I have to clean up right now, really quick! Daddy and I are going the lake today but he said I have to clean my room first!” said Anora.

Just then, Dad came into the room.

“Anora, how’s the clean-up coming along?”

“I’m almost done, Daddy,” she replied.

“Are you sure? he said, smiling. “It still looks pretty messy to me.”

“Daddy, why do I have to clean my room before we go to the lake? What does cleaning my room have to do with the lake?”

137. Lightning Show: a bedtime story and meditation

Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Lightning Show” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!

James enjoys the lightning show until he notices his big sister, Julia, is afraid of thunderstorms. Will he be able to help her out?

Narrator: Male

Lightning Show Excerpt:

James and Julia were playing ball outside when the skies grew dark.  A clap of thunder echoed across the land as lightning flashed through the grey clouds, announcing the arrival of the rain.  It poured down, as James and Julia ran into the house.  James peered out the window, excited to watch  the light show in the sky.

“Wow, can you believe this!”

James loved thunderstorms.  Though he usually disliked loud sounds, there was something about thunder.  He loved the way it rumbled.  And the lightning!  It could flash across the sky, or strike the ground with a bright burst of light.  Sometimes it was even red!  Looking outside, he smiled widely. Then James noticed something in the reflection of the window.  His sister was under the desk, holding her knees up to her chest and looking miserable.

“Julia, what’s wrong?” he asked.

“It’s a very big storm, James,” she said, feeling a bit scared.  “How are you feeling? Usually you hide from loud noises.  I’m amazed you’re actually excited.”

403. Bird Bath: a relaxation and story for your nap time routine

403. Bird Bath: a relaxation and story for your nap time routine

The summer weather is hot and dry, and the neighborhood birds are thirsty!

Narrator: Male

Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 6:52

Bird Bath Excerpt:

The ground was dry – very, very dry. It hadn’t rained in several weeks; actually Carrie the Cardinal couldn’t exactly remember the last time it had rained. Grass had changed from green to brown. The temperatures were very high, and the whole earth felt parched.

Nevertheless, the little bird admitted to herself, the world was still very beautiful. Trees were green, including the beautiful maple tree in which she had built her nest. Flowers bloomed. The sun shone dazzlingly bright. The sky was deep blue, with a few scattered clouds, bright and white, high in the sky. Whether she was sitting in a tree or flying in the air, Carrie always enjoyed cloud-watching, imaging that she saw pictures formed by the shape of the clouds. But these clouds were very high and far away, and Carrie knew that no rain would come from those clouds for a long time.

Carrie was thirsty and was feeling a tired from the heat. She knew if she flew a long distance, she could find some water – she knew there was a big pond in a nearby neighborhood. But it would take her a while to get there, and she just didn’t feel like she had enough energy. She needed water for energy – but she couldn’t get water without having energy first! What was she going to do?
