Unexpected Friends Excerpt:

It was a beautiful sunny day on Ahway Island. The big yellow sun was bright and happy, shining down on the green grass. The sun always made sure that everyone in the forest was nice and warm. The pretty green leaves fell around the entrance to Mya Mouse’s burrow. Mya popped her head out of her burrow, sniffed the fresh air and smiled. Mya was excited. Today, she planned on being extra nice to herself, she was going to find her favorite snacks from the forest and relax near her burrow. It was such a beautiful day outside, Mya wanted to enjoy it with a yummy treat.

Mya crawled out of her burrow and stretched. Mya was a very small mouse, the green grass felt much taller than it would for other animals. Mya was happy that the grass was nice and cool as it touched her warm brown fur. Then Mya started walking toward some of the berry bushes she loved to play in. There were lots of bushes to choose from, but Mya knew which one had the sweetest berries on it; a tall, light green bush with juicy red berries on it. There were always enough berries on this bush for Mya and her friends.
